Background & mission
Autismeshoppen.dk is a 100% Danish owned webshop. The shop is owned and operated by DJW Autismeshoppen ApS with headquarters in Aarhus C and warehouse in Risskov. The company was founded in 2018 and has already come a long way. In 5 years, we have established ourselves as a manufacturer, importer and distributor in the specialty area, which enables us to offer you the best products for people with developmental disabilities at the best prices. We sell to private individuals, companies, institutions, municipalities and regions, where you can choose to buy either as a regular buyer or through a preferential purchasing agreement.
Although we’re growing and expanding all the time, our focus hasn’t changed – reaching as many people with autism and other developmental disabilities as possible and making their lives easier and better is still our priority. We do this by both expanding the range with relevant products and making sure we buy the best products at the best prices – for the benefit of our customers. This means that we are constantly on the lookout for new suppliers that enable us to offer even more products at even better prices.
Having autism close to home – the company was founded by parents of a child with autism – we know all too well the day-to-day challenges of creating structure, helping the child – and the whole family – thrive, and making school a success. Furthermore, we have become involuntary experts in selective eating, meltdowns, noise and additional diagnoses such as retardation, Tourette’s, etc. That’s why it has become our personal mission to help others in similar situations.
But we’ve also gotten smarter over time. We now know that it’s far from only people with developmental disorders who need stress reduction, shielding or sensory stimulation. Over the past few years, we have been contacted by healthcare professionals working with eating disorders, depression and substance abuse. They all call out that there is a great need for stress and anxiety-reducing fidgets and aids, as well as sensory stimulation strategies, if their patient group is to achieve mental balance and a faster recovery. For this reason, we feel it is necessary to emphasize that everyone who needs the benefits of our products is considered our primary customer group and can count on us to help them choose the products that are right for them. Including preschool children, where sensory stimulation promotes children’s development; school-age children, where they need to find peace and feel comfortable; students who struggle with pressure of expectations; adults in the workplace, where stress, high expectations or long hours of sedentary work can make it difficult to be active; elderly people who need to stay healthy, mentally and physically; people in rehabilitation where gross or fine motor skills need to be strengthened; people in treatment where there is a specific need for anxiety and stress reduction; etc.
Yet autism and developmental disorders are our DNA. We focus both on the needs of the early years, but also just as much on the needs of autistic adults. Teenagers and adults with autism often have a much harder time, as the system today caters much more to the needs of children than adults – even though the support needs of adults can be as great or even greater than those of children. That’s why we focus on providing the products that children, but especially adults with autism and their families desperately need – at affordable prices.
As such products are not always available on the market, we have developed a range of products that we produce for you, keeping prices as low as possible without compromising on quality. Including our bite jewelry, pictograms and visualization aids, ball cushions, weighted teddy bears and weighted shoulder pads – with more products on the way.
In addition to developing our own products, we are constantly working to find the products you need at the best prices. We often work directly with manufacturers or with European distributors to minimize the costs you ultimately pay as a consumer. Luckily, we have the right people and as a result, our range is constantly growing with lots of exciting products.
We will, in close collaboration with our customers, update and expand the range to best suit your needs and the needs of others. Therefore, as a customer, you are always welcome to contact us at kundeservice@autismeshoppen.dk and tell us about your wishes or needs. While we can’t always guarantee that we can get the items you want, we will always strive to fulfill your requests, and it’s also possible that we can get an item specifically for you at no extra cost.
Vision
In addition to wanting Autismeshoppen to be your favorite store where you can always find what you need at a good price, we aim to employ people with autism whenever possible.
Our vision is for the majority of our employees to be autistic, where the needs and difficulties of each individual are taken into account. This will not only give employees the joy of having a job that suits their needs, but will also create the foundation for a strong community.
Values
Our values are simple to understand:
- Dignity: unfortunately, when you have a disability or are different in some other way, you often experience being bullied or rejected by others. We strive to not only show respect and understanding for each individual, but also to make it easier for them to live a life of dignity – by giving them access to the products that help them get through the day and giving them the space to be themselves – here at the company. In addition, we have created the Autism Knowledge Bank as a forum with a single purpose – to spread knowledge about autism in order to remove the stigma and mistreatment that people with autism often face.
- Respect: we respect everyone, regardless of differences, difficulties, disabilities or anything else. We show this both through our communication with customers and other stakeholders and through the operation of the shop, where we make room for everyone and strive to make everyday life easier, especially for customers with developmental disorders, including autism.
- Quality: the products we offer are either produced by market-leading manufacturers and recognized internationally, or have all the relevant safety certificates, which is your guarantee that you get a quality product every time.
- Good price: while we, like everyone else, need to make sure the store can run smoothly when setting the prices of the different items, our ambition is to make it cheaper to buy autism-specific products.
