Classic abacus in sustainable wood

A classic abacus has accompanied preschoolers and younger children for centuries, and for good reason. An abacus helps visualize the first arithmetic problems that children will struggle with in school. Visualizing mathematics and materializing numbers makes math more real and understandable. That’s why you’ll find abacuses in kindergartens, schools and homes with schoolchildren.

What may not have been known centuries ago is that abacuses also help children with autism and other developmental disorders by stimulating their senses – both visual and tactile (touch). Sensory stimulation helps to promote children’s development and calm them in stressful situations. The meditative nature of moving the marbles one by one or sorting them has made marble frames a preferred toy even for children who are not yet learning math.
