The weather guide – what should I wear outside? is a complete visualization system that can help children become aware of the weather, understand the connection between weather and clothing, and learn how to choose the right clothes. The weather guide includes a guide board in large A3 format, a handy pictogram board for today’s clothing choices in A4 format, 17 clothing pictograms, 7 weather type pictograms, 3 heat pictograms, 30 number pictograms and a guide.
The weather guide’s guide board visualizes the weather conditions and divides them into 18 categories, depending on how hot it is and the type of weather. For each category, you’ll be shown which clothes go with it – starting with clothes from the left of the image, moving on to outerwear in the middle and ending with accessories and shoes on the right. The weather guide’s guide board aims to create a simplified set of rules that children can use when choosing their own clothes. You learn that you need to consider both the temperature outside/heat and the type of weather before choosing clothes.
The pictogram board for today’s clothing choices is a practical tool for empowerment. It has 11 marked fields with 7 different background colors where you can set up the appropriate pictograms for weather type, temperature, heat conditions and clothing. To make it easier to set up the pictograms in the right fields, the different types of pictograms (clothing, outerwear, shoes, accessories, temperature, heat and weather type) have different background colors that match the background color of the right fields on the board. It is recommended that the pictogram board is introduced by an adult who initially sets it up themselves and talks to the child about weather and clothing using the guide board. After the child has become familiar with the use of the pictogram board, they can be involved in setting up pictograms based on what is written on the guide board. If the child has difficulty relating to the many elements on the pictogram board, you can simplify it by only displaying a weather pictogram and pictograms for outerwear, for example.
Weather guide – what should I wear outside? contains 17 clothing pictograms that visualize the different types of clothing, outerwear, shoes and accessories used throughout the year. The designs are predominantly unisex and tailored to the 3-15 age group. In addition, the set includes 7 weather types that visualize all known weather types in Denmark, as well as 30 numbers to visualize the current temperature. Last but not least, 3 heat pictograms are included to simplify visualizing how hot or cold it is outside. If the child has difficulty relating to the exact temperature outside, for example, it is a good idea to omit the numbers and only visualize the temperature with one of the 3 heat pictograms.
Both the large Weather Guide guidance board and the pictogram board can be mounted on a wall or similar using the included Velcro buttons. The pictograms are also attached to the pictogram board with Velcro buttons.
The parts of the weather guide are made of laminated paper. The boards are made in A3 (guidance board) and A4 (pictogram board) format. The size of the pictograms is 5×5 cm (2x5x5 cm for the number pictograms). The set contains 57 parts in total.
